North York Community House helping senior caregivers thrive

Every year, Canada marks Oct. 1 as National Seniors Day — a time to acknowledge the lifelong contributions that older adults have made and continue to make to their families, communities and society.

In addition to the contributions seniors make in their workplaces and through volunteering, many provide ongoing support and care to family members, friends or neighbours who need their help.

In 2012, nearly one million seniors in Canada provided care to a family member or friend with a long-term health condition, disability or aging need. Care can range from helping with household tasks and transportation needs to more engaged physical, emotional and medical support.
