Newcomers are facing great hardships when trying to get acclimated to a new place and culture. COVID-19 magnified their impediments because most of the services offered were mainly available in person.
I feel lucky that I get a chance to support groups and individual newcomers in their journey towards a better life here in Canada, and that NYCH acted so quickly and created a wonderful virtual platform to allow us to continue to engage and socialize.
I joined NYCH almost two years ago to support citizenship workshops, later I joined the wonderful English Conversation Circles program (ECC) helping to build language and communication confidence through group conversations, and also kept some time for 1:1 professional and social mentoring.
It’s great to interact with people from all over the world, with different backgrounds and circumstances, and I’m happy we can keep doing it even during this crisis.
