After School Program Facilitator"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Role Description<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Provide a safe, inclusive, and welcoming space for middle-years children (6-12 years) to attend after-school, focusing on promoting healthy living, resiliency, confidence, and self-esteem. Volunteers can request to be scheduled at a site that is most convenient for them based on location.<\/p>\n<p>After-School program school locations:<br \/>\nJoyce Public School (Monday, Wednesday, Friday)<br \/>\nFlemington Public School (Tuesday \u2013 Thursday)<br \/>\nBeverley Heights Middle School (Tuesday \u2013 Thursday)<br \/>\nGracefield Public School (Monday \u2013 Friday)<br \/>\nTumpane Public School (Monday \u2013 Friday)<br \/>\nDaystrom Public School (Monday \u2013 Friday)<\/p>\n<p>To learn more about this program, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nych.ca\/programs\/get-moving-after-school-program\">click here.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Type of Position: In-person<br \/>\nLocation: TDSB school locations<br \/>\nLanguage Required: English (Intermediate or higher)<br \/>\nTime Commitment: Program runs 3-5 days a week September through June. Volunteers should be available to assist in-person at least two days per week, consistently for at least a 3 months commitment.<br \/>\nTraining and Supervision: Reports to the \u201cGet Moving!\u201d After-School Program Coordinator<\/p>\n<p><strong>Responsibilities<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>In this role, you will<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Provide a warm, welcoming, inclusive environment<\/li>\n<li>Work with children ages 6-12 in-person, in TDSB school spaces where programs are offered<\/li>\n<li>Work alongside two facilitators in supervising children<\/li>\n<li>Support site facilitators in explaining activities, including demonstrating movements during physical activities<\/li>\n<li>Assist with leading activities, answering questions, taking attendance, etc.<\/li>\n<li>Assist in leading group activities, specifically around physical activity, nutrition education, or personal health and well-being initiatives<\/li>\n<li>Encourage, motivate, and build student\u2019s confidence<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>We look for volunteers that have<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Good interpersonal skills and patience<\/li>\n<li>Respect for people of other cultures<\/li>\n<li>A friendly and positive attitude<\/li>\n<li>Ability to work within an anti-oppression framework<\/li>\n<li>Ability to stand for 2 hours during program time and lift\/move objects needed for facilitating such as physical activity equipment and school supplies<\/li>\n<li>Ability to work in a team environment<\/li>\n<li>Previous experience caring for children, planning activities and\/or facilitating an asset<\/li>\n<li>Proof of 2 vaccinations for in-person volunteering<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>Benefits of this role include<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Reference letters<\/li>\n<li>Building a personal network<\/li>\n<li>Experience in a non- profit organization<\/li>\n<li>Building leadership skills and experience<\/li>\n<li>Developing strong interpersonal skills<\/li>\n<li>Supporting the goals of students<\/li>\n<li>Priority in future employment opportunities within the program<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Training and Evaluation<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Training for this role includes an orientation from the program\u2019s staff.<\/p>\n<p>A volunteer is considered successful when there is an increase in the student\u2019s confidence, self-esteem, and knowledge on healthy living initiatives (evaluation forms are administered bi-yearly)<\/p>\n<p><strong>For more information, contact<\/strong><br \/>\nDanielle Benton, Volunteer Coordinator<br \/>\ndbenton@nych.ca | 437-343-5516<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Help provide a safe, inclusive, and welcoming space for middle-years children (6-12 years). <\/p>\n","protected":false},"featured_media":0,"parent":0,"template":"","meta":{"_acf_changed":false},"categories":[24,82],"class_list":["post-1129","news","type-news","status-publish","hentry","category-resources","category-volunteer-resources"],"acf":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/nych.ca\/cms\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/news\/1129","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/nych.ca\/cms\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/news"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/nych.ca\/cms\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/news"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/nych.ca\/cms\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=1129"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/nych.ca\/cms\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=1129"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
