September 30 is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation<\/strong>, a day to recognize the history and ongoing impacts of residential schools and to reflect on our shared responsibilities toward truth and reconciliation.<\/p>\n

This September, North York Community House is hosting and participating in two events that create opportunities to learn, listen, reflect, and consider how we can take action toward reconciliation.<\/p>\n

Special Screening of Smoke Signals<\/em><\/h1>\n

Join us for a special screening of Smoke Signals<\/em>, the 1998 film directed by Chris Eyre and based on the work of Indigenous writer Sherman Alexie.<\/p>\n

The screening will feature Dr. Evan Adams<\/strong>, who plays Thomas Builds-The-Fire in the film. Following the screening, attendees will have an opportunity to hear from Dr. Adams and learn more about the film and its significance.<\/p>\n

Beyond Orange Shirt Day: Truth, Responsibility and Action<\/h1>\n

On the eve of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, join us for a special evening of conversation, reflection, and action.<\/p>\n

Featuring Dr. Niigaan Sinclair <\/strong>and Doug Sinclair of Indigenous Watchdog<\/strong>, this event will explore what it means to move beyond awareness and consider our responsibilities to truth and reconciliation.<\/p>\n

Together, we will create space to listen, learn, reflect on the history and ongoing impacts of colonialism, and consider the actions we can take as individuals and communities.<\/p>\n
