Volunteer Role: Professional Mentoring

Provide support to internationally trained and certified newcomers around Canadian workplace culture.

Role Description

The mentorship program matches volunteer mentors from specific industries with newcomers looking for employment in a similar industry. Mentors and mentees are matched based on professional interests. For example, a volunteer who is in the accounting field and is currently working in Canada will be matched with an internationally trained accountant looking for work in Canada for the first time.

We look for professionals in all sectors and types of roles. Some current sectors we look for the most support with:
Construction and Construction Management
Engineering (Civil, Mechanical, etc.)
Business Analysis
Information Technology
Business and Marketing
Medical Labs
Arts Management

Need to Know
Type of Position: Virtual – Flexible Scheduling
Location: Virtual
Language Required: English
Time Commitment: Minimum of 24 hours over a 4 month period. The schedule is flexible. The mentor and mentee set their own schedule
Training and Supervision: Mentors will receive ongoing training and support from a program worker

Responsibilities

In this role, you will
Meet one-on-one with a mentee
Share Canadian culture and norms
Provide information on Canadian labour market and resume critique based on professional experience
Provide effective and constructive feedback
Maintain client confidentiality

We look for volunteers that have
Knowledge of Canadian workplace culture
A minimum of 2 years of experience in the sector of choice
Knowledge of goal setting and project management
Good interpersonal skills
A patient, friendly, and positive attitude
Confidence in providing constructive feedback
