Volunteer Role: Get Moving! After School Program Facilitator
Help provide a safe, inclusive, and welcoming space for middle-years children (6-12 years).
Role Description
Provide a safe, inclusive, and welcoming space for middle-years children (6-12 years) to attend after-school, focusing on promoting healthy living, resiliency, confidence, and self-esteem. Volunteers can request to be scheduled at a site that is most convenient for them based on location.
After-School program school locations:
Joyce Public School (Monday, Wednesday, Friday)
Flemington Public School (Tuesday – Thursday)
Beverley Heights Middle School (Tuesday – Thursday)
Gracefield Public School (Monday – Friday)
Tumpane Public School (Monday – Friday)
Daystrom Public School (Monday – Friday)

Type of Position: In-person
Location: TDSB school locations
Language Required: English (Intermediate or higher)
Time Commitment: Program runs 3-5 days a week September through June. Volunteers should be available to assist in-person at least two days per week, consistently for at least a 3 months commitment.
Training and Supervision: Reports to the “Get Moving!” After-School Program Coordinator
Responsibilities
In this role, you will
- Provide a warm, welcoming, inclusive environment
- Work with children ages 6-12 in-person, in TDSB school spaces where programs are offered
- Work alongside two facilitators in supervising children
- Support site facilitators in explaining activities, including demonstrating movements during physical activities
- Assist with leading activities, answering questions, taking attendance, etc.
- Assist in leading group activities, specifically around physical activity, nutrition education, or personal health and well-being initiatives
- Encourage, motivate, and build student’s confidence

- Good interpersonal skills and patience
- Respect for people of other cultures
- A friendly and positive attitude
- Ability to work within an anti-oppression framework
- Ability to stand for 2 hours during program time and lift/move objects needed for facilitating such as physical activity equipment and school supplies
- Ability to work in a team environment
- Previous experience caring for children, planning activities and/or facilitating an asset
- Proof of 2 vaccinations for in-person volunteering

Training and Evaluation
Training for this role includes an orientation from the program’s staff.
A volunteer is considered successful when there is an increase in the student’s confidence, self-esteem, and knowledge on healthy living initiatives (evaluation forms are administered bi-yearly)
