Volunteer Spotlight: Meet Amir
Meet Amir, who loves helping folks file their taxes.

Tell us a little about yourself!
I am Seneca College graduate, and have a Diploma in Business Administration and Human Resources. Outside of volunteering at NYCH, I am passionate about politics and volunteer for different Community Volunteer Income Tax Program (CVITP) tax clinics in the GTA. During my free time, I like to travel around the world and take walks in nature.
Why did you decide to volunteer with North York Community House?
I enjoy helping people with tax returns and inputting the data into the system. The opportunity helps me to gain more experience and grow my network.
What has been the most meaningful part of your volunteer experience?
I enjoy helping people (with their tax return or data entry) and learning from other people (best practices and learning new skills). It is very important to me that I am making a positive contribution in the community.
What’s something new you’ve learned while volunteering here at NYCH?
I learn to be a good team player. As a good team player, it is important to contribute to the operation by completing the task on-time / error free and helping others to complete the task. Also, I learned from people (different culture, different industry and work experience). NYCH volunteers come from different culture, work experiences and different skill sets.
What’s next for you, and do you see yourself continuing to volunteer with us in the future?
Currently, I am looking for a job in the accounting field and considering starting my own accounting business, supporting personal income tax returns and small business owners. During my time at NYCH, I gained valuable experience in preparing personal income tax and data entry. These tasks will help me in the next role.
